Donation to provide food for over 1,200 people in the Rio Grande Valley

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – FEBRUARY 14, 2023) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 to The Salvation Army McAllen Corps of McAllen, Texas. This donation will be used to support two programs that provide food for the community.

“Being able to lend our community a helping hand when they need it most is such a great feeling,” said Maggie Pena, business operations administrator for The Salvation Army McAllen Corps. “Without donations like this to help us provide programs and resources, many in our community wouldn’t know where their next meal would be coming from.”

The Salvation Army’s Soup Kitchen will be able to feed 834 individuals with the donation. The Outreach Program will supply 113 food boxes, which will feed 456 individuals in the rural communities of Hidalgo County.

“This organization does an incredible job of providing nutrition to those less fortunate,” said Julie Balboa, vice president of member service—South Texas for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It’s important for us to stand behind this organization so that way no one in our community goes hungry.”

The Salvation Army of McAllen Corps has been serving the community since 1931, providing emergency shelter and transitional housing for men, women, and families experiencing homelessness.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
