SECURITY SERVICE CHARITABLE FOUNDATION DONATES $5,000 TO HELP WITH FOSTER CARE NEEDS

Funds to provide furniture and case management to participants of Next Step Housing Program

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – MAY 23, 2023) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation donated $5,000 to THRU Project of San Antonio, Texas. This donation will be used to provide furniture and case management to participants of the organization’s Next Step Housing Program.

“Our organization serves older foster youth who are unlikely to be adopted and must prepare for life after foster care, and young adults who have already aged out and need additional support,” said Courtney Laverty, CEO for THRU Project. “This donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation will help us give these children and young adults the support they need during this critical time in their lives.”

THRU Project provides participants a bed, dresser, futon, kitchen table with chairs, and a coffee table. Additional basic housewares such as bathroom and kitchen supplies are also provided. Participants keep the items, even after they graduate from the program.

“THRU Project is a great resource for older foster youth and young adults who are often alone,” said Tom Martin, executive vice president & CFO for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to support this organization and help the youth realize their true potential.”

THRU Project was founded in 2011 by a foster mother and a local businessman who grew up in the foster care system. It was their vision to help older foster youth bridge the gap between foster care and adulthood. Mentoring was the organization’s first program, but after learning more about the challenges faced by foster youth, more services were offered.

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
