With increased security vulnerabilities presented by viruses spread through the internet and email, it is imperative that you take the necessary steps to insure that your personal information is secure.

  • Protect your PC from Computer viruses
  • Keep your Browser software updated
  • Always clear your browser disk cache after viewing personal information over the internet!

The following links can assist you in securing your PC and obtaining information on the latest viruses.

Clearing Your Browser's Cache:

Some computer viruses can select random files from your computer - including information which you have viewed with a browser (such as pages displaying your account information which may be present in your computer's cache) and send out an email to unknown recipients containing confidential information. After viewing your personal account information online, you should always 'clear your browser's disk cache' :

Internet Explorer

  1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
  2. On the General tab, under the Temporary Internet Files header, Click on the "Delete Files" button and answer OK.
  3. Click OK to Exit the dialog box.

Note:Within Internet Explorer you can also select an option to prevent encrypted pages (pages that reside on secure sites) from being saved to disk.

  1. Select Tools
  2. Select Internet Options
  3. Click the 'Advanced' tab
  4. Scroll down to the 'Security' section
  5. Check the box labeled "Do not save encrypted pages to disk".

Netscape Communicator

  1. Select Preferences from the Edit menu.
  2. Double click on the Advanced category.
  3. Click on the Cache option.
  4. Click on the "Clear Memory Cache" button and answer OK.
  5. Click on the "Clear Disk Cache" button and answer OK.
  6. Click OK to exit.
