"Like a Glove"

"Golf Drop" Two barrels contain each the same amount of water. The water temperature in one barrel is 49° F while the other is at 29° F. Two golf balls of same dimension and weight are dropped simultaneously into the barrels. The golf balls are dropped from the same height. Which ball will touch bottom first? Answer: Water freezes at 32 degrees F. The ball dropped into the 29 degree water would never reach bottom because the water would be completely frozen. "The Parisian Doctor" A doctor in Paris has a brother in Toronto who is a lawyer. The lawyer does not have a brother who is a doctor in Paris. How is this possible? Answer: The doctor is a woman. "The Dating Game" Anne has blond hair, Josie has red hair and Claire has brown hair. They are dating Dennis, Ed and Jack - but remember these hints: Claire hates Dennis. Josie dates Dennis' brother, and Jack dates Josie's sister. Who's dating who? Answer: Anne is dating Dennis, Josie is dating Ed and Claire is dating Jack. "The Tortoise and the Hare" Haretown and Tortoiseville are 40 miles apart. A hare travels at 7 miles per hour from Haretown to Tortoiseville, while a tortoise travels at 3 miles per hour from Tortoiseville to Haretown. If both set out at the same time, how many miles will the hare have to travel before meeting the tortoise en route? Answer: The hare and the tortoise are together covering the distance at 10 miles per hour (i.e., on adding their speeds). So, they will cover the distance of 40 miles in 4 hours. Thus, in 4 hours, they will meet and the hare will have traveled 28 miles. "Throwing a Ball" How can you throw a ball as hard as you can and have it come back to you, even if it doesn't hit anything, there is nothing attached to it, and no one else catches or throws it? Answer: Throw the ball straight up in the air. "Dig This" A prisoner is locked in a cell. There is an open window high up in the cell. He can't reach it even if he stands on the bed, so, he decides to tunnel out. However, he later gives up the tunneling because it takes too long. Finally he just hops out the window. How'd he do it? Answer: The prisoner piled the dirt from the tunnel into a tall mound, climbed up to the window and escaped. You can file that one away if you ever find yourself in the big house! "Horse Sense" A horse travels the same distance every day. Oddly, two of its legs travel 30 miles each day while the other two legs travel nearly 31 miles. And the horse is completely normal. How is this possible? Answer: The horse operates a mill and travels in a circular clockwise direction. The two outside legs will travel a greater distance than the two inside legs. |
