Widgets – The New Widgeteration

April 2008

What is a widget? A widget is a tiny application that can sit on a user’s personal computer desktop and can still retrieve information from a website. There are a variety of widgets available and can come in many formats, such as games, stock tickers, quizzes, audio and video players, and even slideshows. Widgets have many providers that let you download them for free. To name a few, there is Yahoo, Spring Widgets, Widgetbox, and Google, which calls theirs gadgets. Of these providers, which one you choose and what you choose to download is purely your option. Widgets are not just for your desktop. You can place them on your blogs or web pages too.

Located on our Business page, there is an RSS Feed Reader Widget that provides you with the latest San Antonio Business News. This widget allows you to scan through the top business topics of the day without having to go directly to the San Antonio Business Journal’s site.

How can you get your own RSS Feed Reader Widget? On the bottom of the RSS Feed Reader widget is a link titled “Get this Widget!”, which will give you instructions on how to get your widget. There is also an Options button on the bottom of the Widget, select it and pick which method you would like to download or share the widget.

Now you can be a proud owner of a widget and join in the widgeteration!
